Information for Session Participants (authors/presenters, chairs & discussants)
Thank you for your interest in acting as an Author/Presenter, Session Chair, or Discussant for the SMA Meeting!
| IMPORTANT NOTE: If you plan to use a PowerPoint presentation, please be sure that you save your file in an Ms-PowerPoint 2003 (or earlier) version on a USB memory stick (preferable) or CD to bring with you to the conference. If you do not save your PowerPoint document in the 2003 (or earlier) version there is a chance that it will not be compatible with the software installed on the computers in the meeting rooms. |
Authors/Presenters
Congratulations again on having your manuscript accepted for presentation at the SMA 2008 meeting. Your manuscript will be presented in the session titled ‘A Sample Session’, which is scheduled at 4:30pm on Friday, January 1 (room: Ball Room).
To view details of the session in which your manuscript will be presented, and to download manuscript files, and view contact information for session participants, please go to www.southernmanagement.org/acms/session_details.asp
Each presentation room will be equipped with both a laptop computer (loaded with MS-PowerPoint) and a projection unit. We will NOT be providing overhead projectors.
Presentations should be saved on a USB memory stick (preferable) or CD. Presenters should arrive in the presentation room 15 minutes before the start time to load their presentations on the laptop computer. Technicians will be onsite to provide assistance, if needed.
Note that all 3-paper sessions are 90 minutes long (workshops and symposia usually take up a whole session). Generally, each paper is allotted 30 minutes for presentation and discussion. We recommend that speakers take 15-20 minutes to present their papers, giving the discussant 5 minutes to share their comments, followed by a few minutes for general discussion. Please adhere to the time you are allotted so that each paper will have equivalent time for presentation and discussion. If a session has only two papers, then the previous time allocations can be followed and the session can end early. If a session has four papers, the time allotments mentioned above will need to be modified accordingly.

Session chairs have some discretion here. If a session chair has other timing in mind, he/she should advise the presenters and discussants as soon as possible. As a discussant, please plan to raise some issues that will provoke further thought and discussion about the paper and that may provide the author(s) with suggestions about continuing their work in the area. Please be constructive in any comments that you make. This does not mean that you cannot mention limitations of the paper, but please do so with an eye toward how the limitations might be addressed or overcome in future research. Please be sure that you adhere to your allotted time so that each paper will have equivalent time for presentation and discussion.
